During the Master Scientific Illustration course, we had the honour of attending a facial reconstruction.
I remember writing down a little journal during the three-day course, but unfortunately, it seems I lost it, so here is a quick recap of what I can remember.
After an introduction to facial reconstruction, we were given a model of a skull excavated by archaeologists in Maastricht. My partner and I then proceeded to mark all the relevant points on the model skull to measure up the thickness of soft tissue then.
We consulted a list of average facial tissue thickness, that goes into further deviations of ethnicities, gender, and heatl
and then added eyeballs and clay for the muscles
and then some more clays...
the Nose was next to tacle
and then we started with the skin
and the final version
we were 8 teams so we ended up comparing our results
the facial reconstruction done on the skull by our mentor, it was interesting seeing the different deviations and the constant ones among all the heads.
and that is the end of our three-day course
